How to register a business in Poland in 2026 — startup assistant

Updated: 03.08.2026 · informational material, not individual advice

Registering a sole proprietorship (JDG) in CEIDG is free and takes about 15 minutes — but your finances for the coming year are decided by five choices you make along the way: tax form, ZUS stage, VAT status, business account and start date. This assistant walks you through six decisions, and for each one links to the Finumero tool that computes it for your situation. At the end you get a registration checklist you can tick off — and it saves in your browser.

Checklist progress is stored only in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How much does registering a business cost in 2026?

Registration in CEIDG is entirely free — the CEIDG-1 application, ZUS registration and VAT-R cost PLN 0. The first real cost is the health contribution under start relief, i.e. a minimum of PLN 432.54 per month in 2026.

How quickly can I start operating?

Even the same day. You file the CEIDG-1 application online in about 15 minutes, and the business can formally start on the date you set as the start date — even the day you file.

Do I have to be a VAT payer?

No, if you're within the exemption limit — PLN 240,000 a year in 2026 (prorated if you start mid-year) — and you don't perform activities excluded from the exemption, such as consultancy or legal services.

By when can I change the tax form?

You change the tax form for a given year only by 20 February (or the 20th of the month following the month of your first revenue in the start year). That's why the choice at registration matters so much.

If I have a job and a business, do I pay double ZUS?

No. If your job pays at least the minimum wage, from your business you pay only the health contribution, no social contributions. That's often the biggest saving at the start.
